This is how I have a conversation with myself

Google Keith

How does this happen? How did we get to this result?

Running through JOTF analytics this week, I found myself asking questions about Google. How do they perform so well?

I understand SEO. Believe me, working almost daily for the last 20 years to study search engine trends and mechanics, I know Google (and their little friend, Bing) inside and out. So, I’m not asking myself how and why the behemoth rules the world. I’m asking, does Google rule more than we know?

83% of our restaurant job search referral traffic to jobsonthefly.com comes from Google. Yea. 83%!

Of course google.com registers as a Google referral.

Of course ‘Hey Google‘ on every Android phone registers as a Google referral.

What about Siri? Are iPhone users in Google’s 83% when they ask, ‘Siri, show restaurant jobs near me‘?

Where are the Google unknowns in our world? How does 83% happen? How did we get to the 83% Google referral result?

I don’t trust for one moment that we get all the information via analytics that we need to answer those questions. So in the meantime, we’ll just keep studying and working hard, thanking Sir Google, and movin’ on down the road.
